A pre-wedding engagement shoot is a portrait session you book a few months before your wedding day. It’s a fantastic way to get to get to know your photographer even better and also get rid of any nerves you may feel in front of the camera. You’ll find that by the end of the shoot you will feel so comfortable in front of the camera that you will have forgotten it was there, and that will make you feel even more at ease on your big day. It’s also a great chance to get an idea how you will be directed and then by viewing your images and loving them it will give you great confidence.

Take advantage of your images and something special for your reception. you could create a guest book, a framed portrait for guests to sign, use images for bonboniere, invitations, or save the date cards, even surprise your guests with a slideshow on the night!

Another idea is to combine your hair and make-up trial so that you get a real feel for how you’ll look in the photos. Many brides want a natural make-up look for their wedding day and might not feel comfortable if it is heavier than their used to, however keep in mind it does need to be a little heavier so it looks natural in the photos. The same principle goes for hair height so its definitely great if you get the chance to get it all done on the day of your shoot so you’ll know what to do on the day.

It’s also a great idea to have your pre-wedding shots taken at a different location than your location shoot on your wedding day. Sometimes depending on where your ceremony and reception is you might not have the chance to go to a special location so an engagement shoot is the perfect chance to do so. Finally if you do have the chance to have a shoot done enjoy it, have fun with it and you’ll reap the benefits!
